It’s time for another Mac Moment

I’m really excited about this one, with me is none other than Wert.

(Please note, due to scheduling problems, Wert couldn’t actually attend this interview).

Mactonight – Welcome Wert

Wert – Hello Mac, before we start, I just want you to know there’s a HIDDEN BID TOURNEY ON NOV 24. REGISTRATION IS BETWEEN 8:00 and 8:45p.m. EST. STARTS AT 9:00p.m.

Mactonight – Thanks Wert that’s good to know.

Wert – CAUTION ALL : When sitting at Start Game be careful when typing... Click off the names by clicking on the long white box over (Send)... That will make it safe to chat... If you don't as soon as you hit Enter you will be kicked off the site...

Mactonight – Again that’s helpful information I appreciate it….

Wert – To all who lose connection and feel you've been kicked off... You can get back onto your game... Just come back to your hosted game and wait... You will sit behind your host , you might not see any chat or cards... Not to worry just sit there and you will get cards at the very next deal... And the faster you get back the fewer hands you miss...

Mactonight – WERT enough.

Wert – Oh bite me.

Mactonight – I met you in Niagara in 2007 and was surprised to find out your name is actually Rick.

Wert – Actually it’s Richard.

Mactonight – But you’re Wert on the site. I always figured it was short for Stuwert.

Wert – Well it’s not.

Mactonight –Well obviously, but how did you come up with Wert?

Wert – You got a keyboard?

Mactonight –You mean like this one here that I’m typing on?

Wert – Yes, find the W.

Mactonight –Got it.

Wert – Look beside it.

Mactonight – Q.

Wert – The other way stupid.

Mactonight –oh, E.

Wert – And beside that.

Mactonight – R – OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH clever!

Wert – The secret is out.

Mactonight –When did you first join the site?

Wert – March 2006.

Mactonight –You are pretty much known as the man who plays a lot of games.

Wert – Bite me.

Mactonight – You had the record for the most games played in a month with 367 until “No Nipps” broke that record, were you upset?

Wert – I could have played more, but when I set the record it was October and I wanted to hand out candies to the kids during Halloween so I lost hours of play time.

Mactonight -Oh Wert that is so sweet. Did you dress up?

Wert – Of course.

Mactonight – Do I want to know what you dressed up as?

Wert – Little bo Beep!

Mactonight – I remember in Niagara you said you the one person you wanted to meet was “Cargobeep”, did you ever meet her?

Wert – Yes

Mactonight –What do you think?

Wert – She’s short.

Mactonight –If you can have five players on a final table who would you want there?

Wert – “emac008”, “aniram”, “smurf”, “Michellebloom” and “cargobeep”.

Mactonight – A fine selection of our female players.

Wert – Don’t tell “magicgirl”.

Mactonight –Well she might read this.

Wert – Ah Crap.

Mactonight –How is “Magicgirl”?

Wert – She’s annoyed at you

Mactonight –At me?

Wert – She wants to know why you picked me to talk to before her.

Mactonight –Just between you and me Wert, I think you’re cooler.

Wert – Bite me

Mactonight –You missed the 2008 Tourney in Niagara.

Wert – We did.

Mactonight –We?

Wert – “Magicgirl” is here with me now.

Mactonight – How is that possible?

Wert – I don’t know, you wrote her in the script.

Mactonight – Hi “Magicgirl”.

Wert – She’s ignoring you.

Mactonight – Typical. You recently had surgery?

Wert – I did, on my knee.

Mactonight – Oh so the surgery was “kneeded”?

Wert – Well yes it was very much needed.

Mactoinght – So was it painful?

Wert – Yes very painful at time.

Mactonight – You mean they didn’t give you pain killers via a big “kneedle”?

Wert – Oh, you’re being funny. You should take this routine on the road. By yourself would be preferred.

Mactonight – I could never go alone Wert, I’m too “kneedy”.

Wert – Oh man.

Mactonight – In 2007 you made the final table three times, doing no better than 4th and in 2008 you again made it 3 times, doing no worse than 4th and actually winning a tourney in August and have even gained the Earth Wizard status.

Wert – It has been a good year.

Mactonight – What changed? Did you do anything different?

Wert – Well it’s silly.

Mactonight – I like silly.

Wert – You won’t believe me.

Mactonight –Try me.

Wert – Well Magicgirl and I…

Mactonight –Yep

Wert – …well she’s been logging on as Wert and I’ve been logging on as “Magicgirl”

Mactonight –I believe that!

Wert – Bite me!

The next edition of Mac’s Moment will be a special one. My guest and I will even sing a Xmas carol and you will all be glad this is a printed media and not an audio one.

Mactonight

Wizard Junior

Thanks to those who have participated in the Beta-testing to date and thanks to those who have provided feedback via an e-mail.

The first session of Wizard Junior runs from November 1 until the end of December. (2 months). Top 10 Junior Points will be equal to regular Top 10 points in counting towards Master Points.

Fun & Friendly Games
A number of players would like to play friendly games without the stress of worrying about points. Consequently I will leave the Tournament area open for that purpose when online Tournaments are not being played. If you want to host or join a FRIENDLY game with no points on the line here is the procedure to follow:

1. Go to "ONLINE T." box and register.
2. Log-in at the "Tournament Log-in and start a game as Host.
3. Announce in CHAT that you are hosting a friendly game and that in order to join players must (a) register at "ONLINE T." (b) Log-in at Tournament Log-in and join Host

Cultural Interlude

In my ongoing quest to bring light into the world I offer the following version of an Indian poem. (You can substitute the names of whatever 6 politicians you wish for the 6 Blind Men)

Also please provide your own MORAL.

It was six men of Indostan
To learning much inclined
Who went to see the Elephant
(Though all of them were blind),
That each by observation
Might satisfy his mind.

The First approach'd the Elephant,
And happening to fall
Against his broad and sturdy side,
At once began to bawl:
"God bless me! but the Elephant
Is very like a wall!"

The Second, feeling of the tusk,
Cried, -"Ho! what have we here
So very round and smooth and sharp?
To me 'tis mighty clear
This wonder of an Elephant
Is very like a spear!"

The Third approached the animal,
And happening to take
The squirming trunk within his hands,
Thus boldly up and spake:
"I see," quoth he, "the Elephant
Is very like a snake!"

The Fourth reached out his eager hand,
And felt about the knee.
"What most this wondrous beast is like
Is mighty plain," quoth he,
"'Tis clear enough the Elephant
Is very like a tree!"

The Fifth, who chanced to touch the ear,
Said: "E'en the blindest man
Can tell what this resembles most;
Deny the fact who can,
This marvel of an Elephant
Is very like a fan!"

The Sixth no sooner had begun
About the beast to grope,
Then, seizing on the swinging tail
That fell within his scope,
"I see," quoth he, "the Elephant
Is very like a rope!"

And so these men of Indostan
Disputed loud and long,
Each in his own opinion
Exceeding stiff and strong,
Though each was partly in the right,
And all were in the wrong!

Germany Opts Out of 2009

Amigo-Spiele of Germany has declined the offer to host the 2009 World Wizard Fest. The reason given was, “…unfortunately in 2009 AMIGO passes through a lot of structural changes.”

Nevertheless Amigo is interested in hosting the event in 2010.

“In 2009 we are planning another German Wizard championship like we did this year. The event was very popular and exceeded our expectations so this decision was rather easy to make. Hence our interest in doing a German Wizard Fest in 2010.”

We are now in a position to firm up plans for the tentative 2009 North American events. I will provide more feedback after conferring with “U.S. Games Systems”.

Wizard Fantasy Deck
Work is ongoing in producing a Wizard Fantasy deck of cards. There will be no changes made to the rules and the 4 suits will remain the same. The only difference will be a graphical one with every card bearing a character depicting a particular vocation in society…wizard, knight, beggar, blacksmith, etc. This version is very much a prototype and may never be produced for retail sales. However it will be an option for online play.

Las Vegas Tournament

The Wizard tournament in Las Vegas was a demonstration tournament which was provided as an adjunct to the “Grand Prix” tournament of classic card games: bridge, euchre, etc.

The maximum attendance for the Wizard event was set at 40 players

Rule #5 as stated for the Las Vegas Wizard Tournament is:

5. Note - The # of tricks bid will NOT equal the # of tricks available.

As of Oct 29 I have no report so this will have to wait for the next Newsletter

FYI

The Grand Prix Card Tournaments are open to all and the entry fees are:

Euchre….$99 US
Hearts…$99
Pinochle..$99
Spades…$99

World’s Largest Toymaker Goes Bankrupt

A town government in Guangdong Province paid 24 million yuan (US$3.51 million) in emergency living allowances to about 6,500 workers after the world's largest toy maker announced two of its factories in the town were bankrupt.

*Looks like tough times everywhere…..wizard
