Every time I bid I pretend its gonna be a underbid. I look at my hand and plan an escape route.

Also leading trump on a underbid(trump flushing) is also a good idea .. if someone is flushed, they are more likely gonna ace your queen(no trump) this allows you to get rid of those mid cards
